From Asaka to Sydney: Asadbek Makhmudov Secures an Australian Student Visa to Study Information Technology

Asadbek Makhmudov, from Asaka in Uzbekistan’s Andijan Region, has successfully secured a three-year Australian Student Visa to study the Bachelor of Information Technology at CQUniversity’s Sydney Campus.

Asadbek completed 12 years of formal education in Uzbekistan: nine years of Basic Secondary Education followed by three years at Asaka Automotive Industry Vocational College. He graduated from the college in 2018 with a vocational qualification.

Eight years after completing his previous studies, Asadbek is returning to formal education to pursue a university degree. He achieved an IELTS overall score of 6.0 and met the academic, English-language and visa requirements for his chosen program. His classes will begin in Sydney on 9 November 2026.

Asadbek was also awarded a 25% tuition scholarship worth AUD 9,180 per year. Based on the fees stated in his offer, the scholarship reduces his estimated annual tuition fee to AUD 27,540 and may provide a total saving of AUD 27,540 over the three-year degree, subject to the scholarship conditions and future fee adjustments.

Returning to Education After Eight Years

A longer period between qualifications does not necessarily prevent a student from continuing to university. What matters is whether the applicant has an appropriate academic background, a logical course choice and clear reasons for returning to formal education.

Asadbek’s decision to begin a bachelor’s degree in 2026 represents academic progression rather than a repetition of his previous studies. He is moving from a vocational qualification to a higher education program in a field relevant to the increasing use of technology across modern industries.

His pathway is also a useful example for applicants who completed college several years ago. With suitable qualifications, an acceptable English-language result and a carefully prepared application, returning to education after an extended period can be a realistic option.

Building a Future in Information Technology

Asaka is widely known as one of Uzbekistan’s main automotive and industrial centres. Today, manufacturing and other industries increasingly depend on software, databases, digital communication and secure information systems.

Information Technology is no longer limited to specialised technology companies. Banks, hospitals, manufacturers, retailers, telecommunications providers and government organisations all require professionals who can develop, manage and protect their digital systems.

Through CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Information Technology, Asadbek will learn how technology can be applied to practical organisational needs. The degree will also help him develop skills in problem-solving, communication, teamwork and project coordination.

CQUniversity offers three principal majors within the program:

  • Application Development

  • Cyber Security

  • Business Analysis

Application Development focuses on designing and building software solutions. Cyber Security develops knowledge of protecting networks, systems and information, while Business Analysis explores how technology can improve organisational processes and respond to business requirements.

Students may further shape their degrees through minors and electives in areas such as emerging technologies, ICT management, entrepreneurship and digital media. This flexibility will allow Asadbek to select subjects that reflect his interests and future career plans.

Studying at CQUniversity Sydney

Asadbek will study at CQUniversity’s Sydney Campus, located at 400 Kent Street in the heart of the city. The campus is approximately a five-minute walk from Town Hall Station and is conveniently accessible by public transport.

Studying in central Sydney will place him within one of Australia’s largest commercial and professional environments. The city is home to international companies, financial institutions, technology businesses and a growing start-up community, making it a relevant location for an Information Technology student.

CQUniversity’s Sydney Campus provides academic facilities, a library and spaces for student activities. The University also connects students with leadership, volunteering, networking and employability opportunities through its relationships with Study NSW, the City of Sydney and international student organisations.

Sydney’s multicultural environment will give Asadbek the opportunity to study alongside people from different countries. This experience can help him improve his professional communication, understand different perspectives and become more confident working in an international setting.

Career Opportunities After Graduation

A Bachelor of Information Technology can lead to careers in software development, cyber security, systems administration, business analysis, data analysis and ICT support.

Depending on the major and practical skills he develops, Asadbek could begin his career as a Junior Software Developer, Application Developer, Cyber Security Analyst, ICT Business Analyst, Systems Support Specialist or Network Administrator. After gaining professional experience, he may progress into more senior technical, analytical or project-based roles.

These capabilities are increasingly relevant to Uzbekistan’s developing digital economy. Local companies and public institutions continue to introduce online services, automate their operations and strengthen their information systems. Graduates who combine technical knowledge with English-language ability and international experience can contribute to this transformation across numerous sectors.

Asadbek’s degree will therefore provide more than a university qualification. It will give him an opportunity to understand current technologies, develop practical professional skills and gain international academic experience that can support his future career.

We congratulate Asadbek Makhmudov on receiving his three-year Australian Student Visa and wish him every success when he begins his Bachelor of Information Technology at CQUniversity Sydney on 9 November 2026.
